Hey guys, does anyone know the deal about putting things like video game music as background music in videos. I see big youtubers do it all the time. Is it fair use or whatever? I honestly have no clue.

Yeah, video game music, unless it's licensed stuff like what they play on the radio in gta, is pretty much fair use when used as background music. Or at least you're not going to get flagged for it. The only time I've gotten flagged, surprisingly, is when I used that rag-time song at the end of my Just Cause 2 video. You'd think old-timey music like that would be public domain. :/

I almost exclusivity use game soundtracks for my background music, Mainly Ps1 games from my childhood. As Content Free Time said I think as long as it's not licenced music it should be OK... I think.
I guess it helps I use music from games that came out over 15 years ago too.

Music is a grey area with video reviews, especially if ads are applied to the videos. Ideally go for music from the game itself and make sure that you don’t have a track play for long periods of time without voice over. Voice overs applied to OST’s changes the waveforms and so it’s harder for YouTube to pick them up.

Since Nintendo got anal about some stuff i've been composing from scratch with Fl Studio making custom music. If you're at a dip for music remember you're open to using the music from my Sound Redux page given there's some quick mention of it or whatever.

There's a guy named FrankJavCee on YouTube and Soundcloud that I enjoy. His videos are great, and he lets people use his music with a shoutout.

To me, I've always seen Video Game Music as somewhat of a 'fair use'. I use Kula Diamond's King of Fighters 2002 theme as my Outro music and I've not been reprimanded by anyone. The other music I use comes straight from Kevin MacLeod.
Music made by actual artists are strictly prohibited for a reason.. because of all the 'record labels' attached to them. It's them and of course the artists themselves who own the rights to the music, and I reckon you'd have to pay a lot of money before you'd even consider using it.
Video Game music I feel, is more lenient because it's all based on the game that you're playing. If music for the game 'was' prohibited, you might as well prohibit the gameplay footage... then there wouldn't be such a thing as 'YouTube Gamers'.

more likely it's probably because game music isn't apart of the hollywood empire's assets and not as heavily guarded
